DJI Matrice 400 leaks, a heavy-lift from the drone giant?

Another leak from DJI has surfaced online, this time for a flagship enterprise drone, the DJI Matrice 400A, along with its battery specs, giving us an interesting look at what could be new DJI heavy-lift drone in the enterprise series.

DJI Matrice 400A

The leak, shared on X by @Quadro_News, shows us a listing for a drone with the name of ‘Matrice 400A’.

Matrice 400’s battery

The listing goes into depth on the battery info, which in return we can compare with DJI’s current Matrice 350 drone to get an idea of size and likely position within the company’s drone line up.

From the leak, the Matrice 400A has the following specs:

  • Capacity: 20,254 mAh
  • Voltage: 48.23 V
  • Energy: 977 Wh

Now, let’s look at the Matrice 350‘s specs, Matrice 600’s specs, and a larger DJI drone with a similar battery setup, Agras T25.

Matrice 350 RTK:

  • Capacity: 5,880 mAh
  • Voltage: 44.76 V
  • Energy: 263.2 Wh

Comparing to the Matrice 350, Matrice 400’s battery has an 244.43% capacity increase. Which is a massive increase and moves us away from thinking the M400 will replace the Matrice 350 at this stage and target more of the market that the Matrice 600 Pro was targeted at.

Matrice 600 Pro:

  • Capacity: 34,200 mAh
  • Voltage: 22.8 V
  • Energy: 780 Wh

Note: Matrice 600 & 600 Pro used six batteries. For this we are referencing the TB48S.

The Matrice 600 Pro runs at more than half of the voltage of the Matrice 400’s battery and comes in at around 200 Whs less. With all the improvements DJI has been able to make since the release of the M600 series, this upgrade in specs makes sense to us.

Agras T25:

  • Capacity: 15,500 mAh
  • Voltage: 52.22 V
  • Energy: 810.41 Wh

Now, the Agras T25 does have a smaller battery than the M400, but it is a lot closer in size. Looking at the specs of the Agras T25, it can carry a maximum load of 20kg (~44lbs) liquid weight or 25kg (~55lbs) solid weight.

It’s important to note that the Agras line of drones have been optimised to carry large amounts of weight by using lightweight materials and designs.

The Matrice 400’s construction will be a lot closer to the M350, meaning it will weigh more and likely carry less than 25kg (~55lbs). The M350’s maximum payload weight is 2.7kg (~6lbs). We wouldn’t be surprised to see the M400’s payload capacity around the 10kg (~22lbs) mark.

This number has been created by looking at other heavy-lift drones on the market, taking into account the M350’s payload weight, and the weight of heavier payloads. Based on that we have created an estimation, which could be completely wrong.

Matrice 400’s name and launch

The name in the listing specifically points out an A at the end, meaning there will likely be more than one variant of the drone launched.

The leak also shows us the drone’s FCC ID, with DJI’s usual SS3 at the beginning, and ASTM. This means the M400 is already in its final stages before launch, so expect to see the launch later on this year.
